Extractavism
Extractivism is an exploitative process in which large amounts of (usually natural) resources such as wood, oil, or gas, are taken from a region or area to be sold on the global market. The roots of this process can be found in the looting of resources during colonial expansion, with many of the same global powers benefitting from extractivism today. This accumulation of wealth, often by those far from the site of extraction, harms both our planet and the peoples and communities whose labour is exploited in order to do so.
